Entity resolution
Definition
The process by which a system determines that different names, mentions or records refer to the same real-world entity.
Why it matters
If a brand is referred to inconsistently, a legal name in one place, a trading name in another, entity resolution can fail, splitting what should be one coherent picture of the brand into several weaker ones.
Example
A company operating as both "Acme Pvt Ltd" and "Acme India" needs those names clearly linked, or systems may treat them as two different entities with separate, thinner records.
