How recently a page was meaningfully updated, as distinct from a cosmetic timestamp change.
Why it matters
Platforms that ground answers in live or recently indexed content treat freshness as one signal of relevance, and a page that hasn't been substantively updated in a long time risks being treated as outdated or superseded.
Example
Updating a pricing page only by changing a date in small print, without changing the actual prices, does not count as meaningful freshness.
